Forum: GratefulDead Subject: This is a Grateful Dead forum

I'm not trashing the Maykers, but here's the thing: Led Zeppelin fans don't listen to Zep tribute bands, and Doors fans don't listen to Doors tribute bands. They listen to the real thing. Period.

Now if said fans were going to an outdoor festival, it would be fun to listen to a tribute band. Especially if the band had some original members.

The Grateful Dead Music Archive is not a music festival. It's a collection of 3000+ shows of original music covering 4 decades. That's what we are listening to, and it's silly to market a tribute band in this forum.

Maybe the Maykers should create their own forum. It would be a perfect place to spread the word, list tour dates, and share links to their music. If that forum gets a devout member base, that would be a true indication that the Maykers rock.

Of course fans of groups that have fallen by the wayside listen to tribute bands, given the right circumstances. Who else would? But with that said, I'm not about to seek out tribute band *recordings*. If I can't see a tribute band live, I'm not that interested.
